RESPONDING TO BABY'S CRIES

There multiple reasons for the infant to cry in which there is no involvement of any disease. The infant cries to draw the attention of the mother if he feels uncomfortable because of any of the multiple situations making infant to cry. On hearing the cries of infant mother can not help but come running to look for the possible cause and help the child becoming comfortable again. Under mentioned are a number of reasons causing an infant to cry.

Understanding Crying Situations:

Crying is the first language of the baby not written and taught any where. Parents forget crying when they become wise and understand every thing but crying. Crying is some thing, which is not confined to babies only, adults also cry but the frequency gets reduced as the age grows and there is valid understandable reason for crying.

Life Comes Crying:

The life of the baby at birth begins with the first crying episode, which is a sigh of relief for the attending doctors to hear the cry of the baby. Even the new born baby is forced to cry by pinching, mild stroking, because with this event is associated the beginning of breathing process. Normally Crying is a sign of healthy baby. Although crying happens to be a physiological function, even then a crying baby upsets the mother and the entire family making every one guess for the possible reason the baby is crying, for which there are no evident sign.

Crying for Needing Care:

It is known that baby does not know how to express its needs and use the language of crying known to him for communication. Some times there are some body movements like hitting of feet, waving of hands, turning of head.  Such movements vaguely suggest some meaning for an action.

In response to crying if one gives a rocking movement, a whistling sound in the ear or mild massage of the abdomen, the baby stops crying for a moment. The habit of crying varies for each baby, if one baby can be easily calmed, whereas other may be difficult to soothe.

Mother’s Response to Child Cries:

The crying can be distressful for the mother or the attending help hence it can be termed excessive crying. Very often baby becomes quiet on getting breast milk, slow rocking movements.

The Sudden start of non-stop crying indicates baby's distress, which requires immediate attention. Reasons of crying can vary from a simple reason to life threatening situation. Hence proper attention and care should be taken in situation of crying baby, ignoring it can have serious consequences.
