Mother's Physiology Functions Affecting breast Milk

Resumption of Menstruation:

The resumption of mensturation while mother is breast feeding the child is a peculiar event perhaps not anticipated. In the mother periodically there is change in the secretion of type and quantity of hormones. These changes affect breast milk some times due to estrogen and some times due to progesterone.

Such periodical changes in the quality and quantity of milk cause indigestion problems in the child. Now this pattern shall continue and few days prior to menstruation onset, child shall also get sick. Child shall be uncomfortable and shall be crying because of the problem. Possibly shall vomit curdled milk, the motions shall be watery with increase in frequency green in color.

Time in between Periods:

A period has arrived when mensuration is over and now the breast milk shall not cause problem for child. Such problem is in the few months later on it is observed though breast milk is not good, but because of reduced quantity and nutrition, now infant is not affected in the mother's cyclical changes.

The question is whether the mother should discontinue breast feeding because she has resumed menstruating. The advice is the mother can continue breast feeding till infant's health conditions are troubled due to these changes in milk yield. She should during the menstruation period give the child artificial milk food and again resume when the periods are over.

This step shall prevent the disorders in respect of child's health. It would be advantageous to breast feed during periods disappearance. Arranging wet nurse works better than to risk the health of infant. Such a situation also calls for adopting partial replacement of breast milk with artificial milk much earlier looking at the impending unavoidable situation.

The Pregnancy of Feeding Mother:

Another situation is if mother becomes pregnant while continuing breast feeding, the breast milk shall not remain nutritious and quantity also getting reduced. Continuing milk to the infant when  mother is having a pregnancy shall be very detrimental to the health of mother. It would be harmful situation for the child.

At this stage the mother should discontinue breast feeding of child and feed the child with suitable artificial milk preparation. During this period an infant who has been so far on breast feeding, shall likely to suffer from flatulence, gripes, watery stools and vomiting. The reason is that the feed has been given again after the previous feed has not been digested, thus milk reaches bowel in undigested form causing decay of undigested food and irritation effect of bowl.

Adequate Time must consider for proper digestion along with some rest for the stomach. This shall suitably take care of the problem. The practice of not allowing sufficient time to digest the food and then an interval of brief rest shall make the end of the evil.

The Bowels also get affected in situation related to weaning of breast milk or when first teething starts. In teething there can be more serious complications also according to intensity of diarrhea proper care should be taken. Diarrhea is usually associated with swelling of gums. With a little probing of the gums helps the teething trouble and proper medical help should be taken.

Weaning Period:

At the time of weaning of milk there is a likelihood of trouble of stomach or bowel.   This objective be considered with the complications in mind. Bowels problems can be from sudden and too early weaning or in a situation of over feeding of unsuitable artificial milk. Coinciding with weaning there can be irritating difficulty in teething.

Acceptance of Artificial Milk Preparation:

The replacement of artificial milk in place of breast-milk by mother, at a time of digestive organs are too sensitive to accept change, it being  most common cause of conditions under consideration.

A sensitive child of just six months age, if is weaned, shall without any exeption shall suffer from dysfunctions of stomach and bowel. If the situation is due to the pregnancy of mother or for other medical reason. With due concern for welfare of infant, breast milk is not be weaned so early for any other considerations.

Making breast milk not available to the infant, with avoidable option of replacing it with artificial food preparation even in spite of all the valid reasons of weaning shall produce bowel complications. The necessary principles must be considered with care to make the weaning comfortable and safe for the health of  infant.

Quantity of Artificial Milk & Gap Between Next Feed:

The quantity artificial milk preparation at each feeding time should be just, which is adequate for capacity of stomach and not in excess. The next meal should be given after the previous meal is digested and some rest period of stomach. The feeding should not be repeated too frequently. If it is not observed the stomach shall become overworked and the digestion shall not be proper. A part of  food shall be vomited out and undigested food shall reach bowel causing decay gas, distension, griping pain, irritation of bowels.

Any improper not suitable food shall cause same effects by trying different artificial foods the most suitable food should be determined and continued with necessary precaution of not excessive feeding  with next feeding after earlier food is digested. The other remedies to control the condition are useless only prevention and care are utmost important on the part of mother otherwise the disease shall get complicated and aggravated.  There are many instances, where children never had an occasion to use a medicine during this weaning period followed by right artificial food selection and management and considering the safe guidelines to replace artificial food.

Issue of Proper Feed Management:

Proper care has been observed by mothers of these children whereas there are instances of children, whose life passed through hazards of improper artificial diet selection and management. Negligence has cost lives of a number of innocent children simply unavoidable mistakes in diet selection and management. Excessive feeding or improper food selection are responsible for anxiety and distressed expressions of  parent and the trouble suffered by the child posing dangers even of life in some instances.

Many times both irritation due to difficulty in teething and diarrhea arise simultaneously making weaning attempt very difficult. Such disorders of bowels, unless they take severe turn does  not need  interference. The swollen gum can be probed for comfortable teething.
