Helping A Child Walk

Infant to Childhood:

The exercise by the child for few months is essential way to get good health and gaining muscular strength. The initial way of exercise is while in the arms of mother or attendant. When he is lifted from bed he is happy with a ride and moves both hands and feet in a playful manner. This is a discovery child has made and it helps in spending energy obtained from nutrition in the process attaining muscular strength.

With the lapse of two months or so the infant now sleeps less comparatively. The phase of less sleep during day time makes him happy to move his limbs freely, turn up side down or roll about and with its kicks now is able to change its position of its own. When the infant is brought in the open air he starts doing exercises of the limbs more vigorously and enjoys doing so.

Damages of Early Walking:

With enough exercises now the infant makes first effort to walk. This is the time child should be taught walking in planned manner. The bones of the infant are soft and can easily get bent under influence of weight of body. If the child is not ready to walk by his own muscular strength and is made to walk ignorantly, much harm can be done to the child like flat chest, confined lungs, distortion of the spine and deformed legs because as yet the legs are having elastic and are not capable of bearing weight.

Mother the Teacher:

It is expected of the mother that she should keep in mind the above mentioned harms to the child attempting to walk in an early age. Mother should view the progress of the child and should not encourage and increase Childs attempts to walk immaturely. Some times the parent repent after such damage has taken place to the child.

If by any chance such distortions in the limbs are noticed, a timely correction is possible. The curvatures formed in the legs can be corrected by a daily cold water bath or sponging with salt water which invigorates and is good for health of the child. Do not allow the child to stand on his feet and wrap the legs with long and firm stockings which, give protection to the child and does not come in the way of exercises by the child. By this deformity of legs is corrected. After few months on such a plan, now the child can be allowed attempt stand on his feet again. Now is the time for the child to learn and practice to walk.

Ability to Walk Achievement:

The child should be encouraged to self learn walking. The child initially is in a position to crawl distances in the room or around the house happily. Now days of crying are over.
Crawling gives the child the opportunity to exercise muscles of the body and it does not cause fatigue to the child. With the increase in strength of child day by day now the child attempts to lift it up and stand on its own feet with the support of a chair or cot.

Now it is a not ending desire to stand up and walk with a support. Any failure prompts the child to again attempt and now in few attempts the child now learns to balance and stand without a support. There are many falls leading to the ultimate success. The child becomes Proud of standing alone and independently and laughs also on his achievements.

The Fearful Steps:

Still there is an element in fear to walk. With few self attempts walking is also learnt through continuous trials to walk the confidence increase. Now is the time to give the teachings to walk. Muscles and bones day by day are strengthened and now are capable of bearing the weight of body.

Pony Ride Dispells Fear:

In cases of delicate child respiration of fresh air is very vital for improvement of health. Riding on a pony offers good body exercises it has a positive effect on mind of the child because there is an element of fun in it without exhaustion of body. In children having weak lungs horse riding is very beneficial. By horse riding there is there is full expansion of lungs through full inspiration maintaining healthy structure of the lungs of the child and air passages are kept open and increasing their permeability. There is absence of clogging of lungs air passages. There is change in the chemical reaction on blood and there is no congestion now present pulmonary circulation.
