DISEASE PREVENTION TIPS
A Child having arrived in a hostile environment from it’s past abode in mother’s womb feels very helpless and defenseless considering immense population of bacteria and insects present responsible for very frequent minor diseases like loose motions, skin infections common cold to most dreadful diseases like polio, meningitis etc. most of the diseases are caused by bacteria insects acting as hosts for bacteria.
Infants and children need protective measures taken by their parent so that the preventable diseases are curbed by the right step at the right time. Following are very useful tip which if properly cared the suffering of the child can be drastically reduced:
- A Child is more prone to diseases because it has not as yet developed it's defense system and all of a sudden the protection available in mother's womb withdrawn and is too small to fight infectious diseases.
- The infant prior to birth was living in an environment complete sterility was maintained by a number of barriers and living biological processes in action all the time. After birth the infant lands in a hostile environment and a competitive race between the man and other members of animal kingdom including bacteria and their hosts insects spreading disease. The rule of theNature is Survival of the Fittest.
- The new born is yet to acquaint itself and develop immunity and resistance to diseases. The parent is bestowed upon a responsibility to provide protection to the infant from bacteria, insects and impurities present in air and water. The infant is helpless and the parent has to provide and arrange for all these services to keep the environment infant friendly.
- Following Tips shall be of help in keeping the infant healthy and shall receive required attention and treatment if a disease is present:
- Distressed feeling with more crying, accompanied with convulsions, hyperpyrexia rigors, stiff neck, nausea and loose motions, bluish tinge of the skin, difficulty in breathing with unusual sound. All these conditions need a consultation with the Child Specialist doctor to examine the infant and advise treatment..
- First Aid Articles containing Clean Cotton, Antiseptic Powder, lotion & Cream,, Band Aid, a Forceps, Blunt end scizzors and some Common Medicines is to be kept handy to be used in need. While handling the child hands should be washed with soap and dried. A diary for recording Contact Numbers of Doctor and other Emergency services for help.
- Infant's medicines keep in a separate Box. Containing Information in respect of dose and guidelines of use should be neatly written and Pasted On Lid of Box for Ready reference.
- While driving infant is to be carried by another person and if child can sit independently he should be on a separate seat protected by seat belt.
- When taking baby out fix identity card on the dress of the child with your address and contact number.
- For walking child always provide personal support for the prevention of a fall resulting injuries.
- In Emergencies give First Aid and take child to a hospital for examination and treatment.
- Choking : The infant may have swallowed a metallic or plastic materialcausing obstruction. Quickly make the infant lie on belly with head in downward direction, press the belly backwards, forward with gentle Strokes on upper back and make the infant vomit out. Take the infant to Hospital for professional help.
- Accidental Poisoning: Induce vomiting by working the fingers in the throat. Identify the poisonous substance by smelling take the child to hospital for treatment.
- Burns: Take away the child from heat source, put clean water, use sterile cotton for cleaning wound and dress with gauze rush the child to hospital for treatment.
- Wounds : Wash the wound using clean water, try stopping bleeding by tying a ribbon around the affected area, put sterile gauze on the wound and tie the Bandage around. Take the child to hospital for further treatment.
- Bath Tub mishap: Pull the child briskly keep the head downward direction press abdomen gently or Provide artificial respiration with your mouth and rub heart and take child to hospital.
- Live Wire Touching : Disconnect current supply. Feel the child's Respiration, if breathing is absent give artificial breathing and rub the heart take the child to hospital.
- Most Important provide the child good care, lot of love and encourage his day to day achievements however small and build relations ensure his health and encourage his interest in games.
Handle With Care Observe the Do Nots:
1. Do not give jerking motions to baby, this can be damaging to brain.
2. Keep little articles away not within reach of child.
3. Let the child not Pens, pencils, Pins, which are of pricking nature.
4. Prevent water entering in ears of child while giving bath.
5. Do not insist upon taking meals if infant is weeping or having cough bouts.
6. Feed Baby according to appetite avoid excess feeding.
7. Harmful things mosquito insecticides , Napthelene balls, Ink or Gum bottle, left over
medicines need to be thrown away.
8. Choose Loose Wearing Clothes for convenience and comfort..
9. Infant should be in the middle of cot with barriers in place so that he can come to the
edge and fall down.
10. Do not allow strangers to pick the child.
11.The Electrical appliances keep in other room. The electrical sockets should be either high enough from floor or covered with a plugging device.
12. Kitchen is No Entry Zone for infants being very risky place.Do not take them in kitchen because they observe and want to repeat, what ever is seen, which can prove injurous.
13. Don't leave the child in bath tub for attending a Phone call or answering a door bell. Use minimum water in bath tub.
14. Expiry date items should be discarded and thrown away.
15. Donot allow child to come near pet animals. Dog should be properly vaccinated for Rabies.
16. Access to the stairs keep barred with a mini gate. Donot be encourage the child to climb steps.
17 The Room Should moderate lighting and not very bright.
18. Prevent the child accepting food from co passengers while traveling.
19. Crawling of child on soil is harmful and it should be prevented.
20. Keep the child away from sick persons in the family.
21. To avoid cross infection do not take the child along with should you have to go to visit a patient in hospital ward, over crowded places like theatres and unhygienic places.
22. Table lamp is to be kept away from the kids because the insects are attracted to light source. Causing sleep problems and insect bites.

Medicines of other persons if not in use throw them away. For giving any medicine to the child fresh medicine should be purchased.
